Repost: 70’s, 80’s, 90’s Generational Differences as Seen By Chinese Blogger

I have a rule: don’t go online for at least an hour before sleeping. As usual, I broke that rule last night. I went straight for the work inbox (always a surefire way to delay sleep for a couple hours), and found this gem from Joey. Kept me laughing the whole way through. A Nciku blogger, Cherrybeckham, posted this in-depth look at generational gaps by applying well-studied stereotypes to 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s generation. Here it is, as posted by Cherrybeckham on her blog. 1.  Work

70后：工作狂基本上都是70后的。
70: Many of them are workaholics.

80后：而我们，拒绝加班！
80: Extra hours? No way!

90后 ：拒绝上班！
90: We don’t even go to work!

2. Style

70后：他们喜欢穿七匹狼或者猛龙牌子的衣服。
70: We like certain name brand.

80后： 我们喜欢G-Star之类的。
80: We like something as G-Star…

90后 ：乞丐服，越花越好,越破越好..一个洞时尚，两个洞潮流，三个洞个性…
90: Boho chic.

3 Entertainment

70后：他们唱k的时候只会乱吼──例如2002年的第一场雪，然后就拼命拉着你喝酒，不让你唱。
70: Roaring Karaoke

80后：Mic霸一般是我们。
80：We are king of karaoke.

90后 ：我们不止会唱，还会跳！
90: We are not only karaoke, but also dance ok.

4. Topic
70后：他们的话题除了工作就是股票。
70: We talk about job and stock market only.

80后：我们的话题更多，有英超、魔兽……
80: We talk about game online.

90后 ：QQ等级，QQ秀…
90: We talk about QQ on QQ…

5. Accessories
70后：他们如果有笔记本，会喜欢到公众场合用。
70: They want to show up with a notebook in public.

80后：我们才不会背那么重的东西在身上。
80: We don’t want carry anything heavy, such as a notebook..

90后 ：只要苹果笔记本，而且不止一台…
90: Apple notebook only, and more than one…

6. Drink
70后：他们喜欢喝红酒，一般是长城红酒。
70: They usually like red wine, such as Great Wall red wine.

80后：我们要么不喝酒，要么就喝啤酒。
80: Many of us don’t drink, or drink beer only.

90后 ：韩国果汁，日本汽水…
90: Korean Juice, Japanese soda…

7.  Social
70后：他们无论任何时候，看到有站着的领导，都会马上给领导让座。
70：Whenever they see boss stands, they will get a chair for boss.

80后：我们崇尚上下级平等。
80: Every body should be equal.

90后：天上地下，唯我独尊！
90:　I am the most important one!

8. Marriage
70后：他们娶老婆的时候想娶处女。
70: My wife has to be a virgin.

80后：我们觉得无所谓，只要相互感情好就可以了。
80: Virgin or not does not matter, only if I love her.

90后：结婚需要感情吗？..需要结婚吗？..
90: Do we have to be in love to get marry? Do we even need marriage?

9. World view
70后：他们觉得每个日本人、美国人、台湾人都想攻打中国。
70: They thought that China was hostile by Japan, America, and Taiwan.

80后：我们喜欢日本的连续剧、台湾的综艺节目、美国的大片。
80: We like Japanese TV drama, Taiwan TV show, and American movie.

90后：我要去日本，因为我是日系MM…
90: I am Japanese style …

10. View of war
70后：他们希望中国用核弹把上面三个国家(地区)都灭了。
70: China has to be powerful.

80后：我们希望和平。
80: We love peace.

90后：和我无关！打仗衣服会降价吗？那就打呗~~
90: We don’t care! if war would cut down the price of my favorite dress, go ahead!

11. Moral
70后：他们对服务员态度恶劣，或者言语上调戏女服务员。
70: They treat waitress impolitely.

80后：我们只在点菜和结帐时会跟服务员说话。
80: Not even want to talk to waitress.

90后：从不和waitress说话，只会背后讨论她的衣服很土…
90: Never talk to waitress, but gossip and tease them

12. Money
70后：我们有存款。
70: We have money in bank.

80后：我们负债。
80: We have loan.

90后：我们有老爸！
90: We have rich daddy!

13. House
70后：他们会把房子买在番禺或者花都，然后每天早上花一个多小时乘车去上班。
70: We buy a house away from city, and spend an hour to work by bus.

80后：我们喜欢在公司附近租房子，每天骑车或走路去上班，就为了早上多睡一会。
80: Because we want to get up late in morning, we just rent a room close to work place, and ride a bike or walk to work.

90后：我们住哪里都可以，只要BF喜欢…
90: I live wherever my boy friend lives…

14. Friend
70后：他们结交有背景有地位的人。
70: We make friend with good background.

80后：我们结交志趣相投的人。
80: We make friend with somebody I like.

90后：我们结交满身文身的帅哥！
90: My friends are cool men with tattoo.

15. Weekend
70后：他们周末约客户去吃饭。
70: They spend the weekend by taking clients to dinner.

80后：我们周末约同学去踢球。
80: We play ball with friends on weekend.

90后：一个礼拜7天周末，想做什么做什么！
90: 7 days a week, everyday is weekend to us. We do whatever we want!

16. Alcohol
70后：他们喝酒时喜欢跟别人干杯
70: They always cheers and finish all alcohol.

80后：我们能喝多少喝多少，喝不下了，怎么也不肯再喝
80: We drink as much as we can take.

90后：我不是随便喝酒的人，我随便喝起酒来不是人～
90: We don’t drink that often, but if we start to drink, we drink a lot…

17. Custom
70后：他们的家进门要脱鞋。
70: Have to take off shoes whenever enter house.

80后：我们家进门不用脱鞋。
80: Don’t have to take off shoes in my house.

90后：我们上床睡觉都不脱鞋！
90: We are not even take off shoes on bed!

18. Travel
70后：他们五一、国庆去旅游，然后会在各个景点门口拍下很多V字手势的照片。
70: They travel when have vacation, and take a picture with a “V” gesture to prove they have been those places.

80后：我们五一、国庆在家睡觉，或者约朋友去唱k，去旅游，我们只会拍景色。
80: We take vacation by sleeping at home and karaoke with friends. If we go to travel, we picture only scenes.

90后：我们天天是五一，国庆….取消五一没什么关系…
90: We take vacation everyday. We don’t care it is vacation or not.

19. Relationship with boss
70后：吃饭时，他们喜欢坐在老板旁边
70: They like to stay close to boss on party.

80后：我们最好别坐在老板旁边，那才无拘无束
80: Boss, leave me alone.

90后：我是老板！
90: I am boss!

20. Icebreak
70后：他们跟陌生人在一起的时候喜欢找话题说。
70: Want to be icebreaker when stay with somebody new.

80后：我们不太搭理陌生人，故意找话题不累么？
80: We don’t want to talk with strangers. Don’t wanna to find topic.

90后：你谁啊，穿这么土，死开～ 帅哥，交个朋友好嘛？～～
90: “Who are you? ugly, get away from me…”
