Catching the Travel Bug

Travel — By Matt on August 10, 2009 at 9:04 am

It’s travel week here at enoVate!

Last week we investigated China’s running world. This week we’re ready to again get out of the office and we want to go farther than a jog or run will take us.

Want some adventure? What about a shopping spree in another Asian capital? Not too interested in being squeezchinese-tour-group1ed in a tour bus full of old people on a 4 day package to some crowded tourist spot?

If you are in China, you are in luck! Options abound for young people trying to get away from it all.

Chinese are using the web to connect with other like minded travellers. Many young Chinese are finding others online and organizing trips across China and even around the world. Just look for 结伴同游 (Find Partner to Travel With). You can find a hiking trip, a camping outing or a beach sojourn. Thikerhe list goes on. Just add the organizer on your QQ and he/she will offer up all the details you need.

Spend just 5 minutes on Tianya and you will find people organizing trips to Inner Mongolia’s grasslands, Tibet’s hinterlands, and Xinjiang’s northern borders. Not adventurous enough? This author found people organizing bicycle trips from Sichuan to Tibet!

Travel, of course, doesn’t need to be so adventurous. People are organizing shopping trips, relaxing beach vacations, history tours and more.

And Tianya is just one of many travel tools. There are many more Chinese travel sites dedicated to young Chinese that we will be discussing this week. Start your week perusing www.doyouhike.net, one of the best site for young travelers.

We here at enoVate want to understand how young Chinese are traveling, where they are going, which sites they are using to plan/book/organize, and, of course, what all of this means for brands in related industries.
